Drop Messages, the winner of the TechCrunch Boston Pitch-Off , has today announced the close of a $1.25 million seed round led by Atlas Ventures hidden cameras and Spark Capital hidden cameras . The location-based messaging platform has also introduced a new version of the app alongside the announcement.
Drop Messages hidden cameras , for those of you who haven t heard yet, is an app that lets you leave or send messages to people who are all based around location. The recipient won t get the message, or Drop, until they are in a specified geographic location.
The update might feel incremental, but could signal a shift in the user experience. Instead of offering a chat-like platform, Drop s group messages turn the app into a sort of feed or social network, wherein users can comment and like Drops as they receive them wandering about in the world.
The team will be using the funding to expand the business and pick up new users. And speaking of the funding, it s worth mentioning that the Drop team first met Atlas Ventures, their new lead investors, on stage at the TC Pitch-Off.
